Must-have for comics historians and knowledgeable comics readers

This outstanding history of American comic books not only uses American history to understand comics, it uses comics to understand American history. The well-written survey carefully and humorously takes the reader through the 20th and into the 21st Centuries, exploring each comic book's heroes, plots, and cultural significance. Each section is thoughtful and shows not only an historian's meticulous eye for analysis, but also a comic-book lover's enthusiasm.
